Having initially used photography as a means of documenting my site-specific sculpture, then as an equivalent form to stand in their place, all of my subsequent work with the medium can be seen as a series of explorations of its specific properties, examining both its instruments and its materials and the consequences of their interactions. While acknowledging the importance of the image, not least as a crucial point of entry, it interests me that it might inhabit a tangible world of motion blur, variable focus, multiple exposure and so on – qualities that might, perhaps, be seen as avoidable errors, but which are otherwise available to be harnessed, scrutinised and celebrated.
